Our lineage of Chán (original Zen) Buddhism dates to the 5th Century common era, with the teachings of Bodhidharma and the countless masters through  the ages who have gone forth and explored the mind and spirit to transmit the correct direction of individual practice.

Ten minutes of every class, with five at the beginning and end, is dedicated to quieting the mind.

Further instruction meditation and Buddhism is offered at the Rochester Chan Buddhist Temple.

Martial Art is the vehicle for cultivating active discipline, vitality, and self-knowledge.

Through the daily practice of basic gongfu techniques, beginners learn to develop an evolving appreciation of movement and fitness in a formal context. Progress is denoted by colored sashes, representing ten levels of experience.

Stretching, conditioning  and endurance exercises, line drills, and empty hand and weapon patterns form a collection of methods which grow deeper and more subtle over time.  Emphasis is on personal development, not competition.



Traditional Chinese Medicine is used to support the upright Qi and to correct disharmony.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is taught to all students as part of the curriculum at the Center.  Onward from the orientation class, students learn acupressure points and meridians, qigong (energy work), herbs, formulas, tuina (bodywork), anatomy and physiology, in an orderly and progressively more detailed manner.

TCM is a guide to establishing a life-long healthy lifestyle as well as providing the means to help others do the same.

The Center boasts of a full service Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine clinic open to the public M-F, 9-5.
